The Swedish kontrabasharpa is a member of the nyckelharpa or “keyed fiddle” family. It features two playing strings bookending a drone string and a series of sympathetic strings. Most of the keys on this instrument have two tangents, one per playing string. This instrument dates from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and is now experiencing something of a renaissance.
